Frequently Asked Question
How long do I have to make a claim?
In some instances, you must send a notice letter for a claim within a few days of your accident or injury. You should consult with a personal injury lawyer as soon as possible after your accident or injury. If you don’t, you may completely lose your legal right to claim compensation.
How do the legal fees work?
There are no legal fees unless we recover some compensation for you. Legal fees are only incurred if we are successful at negotiating or winning a settlement from the insurance company on your behalf. In those cases, the legal fees would be a percentage of the amount we recover for you. You never need to pay unless we win and we will fight to get you the best possible result and the compensation you deserve.
What areas do our lawyers serve in Ontario?
Our personal injury lawyers help clients all across Southern Ontario.
We serve clients in Toronto, Vaughan, Woodbridge, Scarborough, Ajax, Oshawa, North York, Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauaga, Barrie, Caledon, and across other cities and towns in Ontario. We will work with you to make our meetings convenient, using video calling when possible and staying in touch with our clients regardless of where they live.
What information should I have ready for my free consultation?
You don’t need to bring anything to the initial consultation except for any questions you might have and some of the details of your injury; when, where, and how the accident happened; what injuries you have, how those injuries are affecting you. The initial consultation to get some of your questions answered and to have an open conversation about your situation.
I can’t work because of the accident. How will I pay for a lawyer?
Often a person’s injuries prevent them from working. This can be very stressful. The good news is that there are no upfront legal fees. We only receive legal fees out of the settlement we obtain for you.
The insurance company says that I don’t need a lawyer. Are they right?
Every person who has been injured in an accident should speak with a lawyer. We offer free consultations that can help you better understand if you can receive compensation for your injuries and we can help you start the process. You have a right to this free advice and we can help ensure you receive the proper compensation and payments for your injuries.
Should I talk to the insurance company before I have consulted with a lawyer?
You should get legal advice before engaging with any insurance company regarding your accident or injuries. Knowing your rights will help you deal with the issue your insurance company will raise and ease the process if you decide to pursue a claim later on. In most cases, it is better for your lawyer to communicate with the insurance company on your behalf.
In Ontario, you are required to report any accident to your insurance company, however you are under no obligation to engage in phone conversations with an insurance company, and there should be no pressure to return calls from insurance adjusters. If communication is necessary, it’s advisable to do so in writing, ensuring a well-documented record of the interaction.
